Coláiste Ailigh, Letterkenny with architect Claire Burke

Transition year students from Coláiste Ailigh in Letterkenny, in collaboration with architect Claire Burke, have produced brilliant design ideas as part of our Architects in Schools programme.

A site was selected on the school grounds and the students were set a brief to design an exhibition pavilion for the school. The proposed pavilion is to be used to exhibit student work to the school community and to outside visitors. The brief and the site allowed the students flexibility to explore different forms and materials. It also challenged them to consider how the building should be orientated, what scale it should be and how it should be lit.

“The thing I found most surprising about this project is how much effort and planning goes into the construction of a building.”
Jerry (student)

“I have learned a lot about the construction of buildings during this study, but mostly about how important the placement of the building actually is.”
Jeaic (student)
